One day. Three parts.
Enter your last 24 hours: travel, food & drinks, and shower & cooling. Include return journeys and each extra meal or snack only once.
An emission factor is the estimated emissions per kilometre, kilogram of food or unit of electricity. kgCO₂e means kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent—a common unit for comparing greenhouse gases.
Some travel inputs use CO₂-only proxies. The app combines them with CO₂e estimates for this activity, so the total is a mixed-boundary learning estimate, not a complete personal footprint or a certified TGO assessment.
Small, regular or large?
These sizes describe a model plate, not a restaurant’s serving size. Choose regular as your reference, small for about three-quarters of it, or large for about one-and-a-half.
| Size | Dry rice | Vegetables | Protein food |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small · ×0.75 | 56.25 g | 75 g | 75 g |
| Regular · ×1 | 75 g | 100 g | 100 g |
| Large · ×1.5 | 112.5 g | 150 g | 150 g |
“Protein food” means the ingredient’s weight—tofu, chicken, pork, beef or egg—not grams of dietary protein. The rice weight is dry, before cooking; it is not the weight of cooked rice on your plate. Cooking changes food weight, so these are approximate ingredient equivalents.
Every meal includes the same model rice and vegetables. Your selection changes the protein ingredient. These plates are workshop assumptions, not measured Thai recipes or nutritionally equivalent diets. Select “Not eaten” only for a meal you actually skipped.
Try the maths: one regular chicken meal
= 1.37375 kgCO₂e → 1.37 displayed
Small multiplies this whole meal by 0.75; large multiplies it by 1.5.
Compare the model meals
| Main ingredient | Small | Regular | Large |
|---|
Coffee, extra meals & little snacks
The drink selector applies to all cups you enter: choose the closest drink type. Cup sizes below are the model’s ingredients, not the total beverage volume.
| Drink | Ingredients per cup | kgCO₂e |
|---|
Extra meals use one regular model plate per serving. Choose 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 3 or 4 servings. For example, 1.5 servings of an extra chicken meal equals the large chicken meal above.
| Snack | Weight | kgCO₂e |
|---|
Add another entry for a different snack or extra meal. The app allows up to 20 extra entries. A snack estimate is grams ÷ 1,000 × ingredient factor × servings.
Food calculations exclude meal preparation, cooking, sauces, added sugar or oil, takeaway packaging and uneaten food. Drinks also exclude brewing, ice and cups. Source food factors may include upstream processing and packaging; the app adds no separate meal-level packaging estimate.
Count the journey there—and back.
Add the total kilometres travelled by each mode. Leave unused modes at 0. Enter your own passenger distance for trains and buses.
| Mode | Factor | Basis |
|---|
For a car, taxi or Grab, divide by the people sharing your journey. Include yourself; exclude a hired driver. Motorbike assumes one rider. Rail and bus factors are already per passenger, so the app does not divide them again.
20 km × 0.18 ÷ 2 people = 1.80 kg for your share.
Where do the travel factors come from?
The rail and bus values come from a 2019 travel illustration hosted by Thailand’s environmental department. They are approximate CO₂ per passenger-km at full passenger capacity, reused here as teaching proxies. Applying them to BTS/MRT and shared vans is an exercise simplification, not a current route-specific measurement.
The car and motorbike values are separate workshop assumptions. They are not verified TGO factors. The model excludes vehicle manufacture, infrastructure and extra food energy for walking or cycling.

Emissions = electricity × grid factor
| Activity | Power | How it is counted |
|---|
Enter total hot-shower minutes and total AC/fan hours during the last 24 hours. If AC and a fan ran together, enter both. Only cooling is divided among room occupants; shower electricity is personal. The same room-sharing count applies to all cooling hours.
10-minute hot shower: 10 ÷ 60 × 4.5 × 0.5562 = 0.42 kgCO₂e.
8 hours of AC shared by 2 people: 8 × 0.8 ÷ 2 × 0.5562 = 1.78 kgCO₂e per person.
Which TGO factor do we use?
TGO is the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (องค์การบริหารจัดการก๊าซเรือนกระจก, อบก.). This exercise uses its 2022–2024 grid-mix CFP factor: 0.5562 kgCO₂e/kWh, cross-checked against CFO_TGO_EF2026.pdf, February 2026 edition, pages 11–12.
The table separates electricity generation for organisational Scope 2 (0.4750) and the upstream fuel chain (0.0812). Their sum is 0.5562, labelled CFP, or Carbon Footprint of Products. The app uses that sum once; it does not add the two components again. This is different from using the Scope 2-only value in a company inventory.
TGO’s official table · electricity rows 140–142 ↗Heater, AC and fan power are workshop assumptions, not TGO appliance measurements. Real electricity use depends on equipment, settings and conditions. A cold shower counts zero water-heating electricity; water supply, pumping and wastewater are excluded from both shower types.
Read your story, then choose one change.
Each input page shows only its category subtotal. “My story” adds all three, including saved entries and extra meals/snacks. Open Check my calculation on that screen to see your inputs, active factors and every line of maths.
All calculations use unrounded values. Results display two decimals, so adding the displayed rounded numbers can differ slightly from the displayed total. Blank numeric inputs count as zero. A zero means nothing was counted for that model activity, not that your entire day had no emissions.
How are the suggested savings calculated?
The app recalculates your day with one change and subtracts it from your baseline. It offers only changes with a positive saving under the active factors:
- Replace all entered car distance with the same passenger-distance by train.
- Replace one main or extra meal with tofu at the same model portion size, choosing the eligible meal with the largest saving.
- Shorten the hot shower by up to 2 minutes.
- Replace up to 1 hour of AC with a fan, within the entered hours and 24-hour fan limit.
Weekly potential = saving per action day × your chosen 1–7 days. Annual potential = weekly potential × 52. These scenarios assume the same day, change and factors repeat; they do not predict your actual future footprint. Skipping meals is not a suggested action.

Using different assumptions?
This guide’s tables and examples use the exercise defaults. In the app, Help & factors → Facilitator settings lets a facilitator change travel factors, electricity and appliance power for this browser. Food factors and portion sizes stay fixed. Custom factors need their own supporting evidence.
The exercise stores entries on your device. “Start a fresh story” clears activity entries and the pledge; facilitator factors remain until “Restore defaults” is selected. The mascot help is preset guidance. Flights, purchases and other activities not listed in the form are outside this exercise.
